Roger Otto Kinnischtzke was born in Glen Ullin on August 19, 1937 to Paul and Frieda (Loritz) Kinnischtzke. He grew up on a farm north of Glen Ullin and knew from a very young age what he wanted to do with his life: farm, ranch, and fly. Roger fulfilled all those pursuits to the fullest. Roger was active in 4H and started his ranching career with 4H steers and 10 heifers. Roger attended both country and city school, but quit school in the 9th grade after basketball season so he could farm and ranch with his father. Roger expanded his operation throughout his lifetime; he loved farming, feeding cattle, and running cow/calf pairs. Roger was in the National Guard for 6 years and the Reserve for 2 years thereafter. In 1966 he married Jane Kraenzel of Hebron. Roger and Jane moved from town to their farm northwest of Glen Ullin in 1972. Roger obtained his pilot’s license and was an avid pilot throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed introducing people to aviation and giving them airplane rides. Roger often helped others by flying them to medical appointments, rodeos, etc. , and he enjoyed vacationing with his family. Roger was hard-working, caring, giving and outgoing. He was a lifelong member of St. John Church and served on the church council. Roger enjoyed bowling leagues for many years in Glen Ullin and was a member of the Glen Ullin Weighing Association. He was a member of various aviation organizations and he was an active member of the Glen Ullin Airport Authority, also serving as President and Airport Manager for a number of years. Roger was fundamental in creating the Glen Ullin airport as it exists today. Those left to share in his legacy include his wife of 47 years, Jane, Glen Ullin, ND; daughters, Rita (Todd) Ormiston and grandchildren Colton and Justin, Bismarck, ND; Carmen (Pedro) Briceno, Champlin, MN; and Kylene Kinnischtzke, Glen Ullin, ND. He is also survived by his four siblings, Norbert (Marianne) Kinnischtzke, Bismarck, Earl Kinnischtzke, Glen Ullin, Richard (Irma) Kinnischtzke, Pueblo West, CO, and Sharon (Rod) Peterson, Marietta, GA. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Frieda (Loritz) Kinnischtzke.
