Rose Krein

Rose Krein, 85, of Glen Ullin, passed away November 24, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.


Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. CDT, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Evangelical Congregational Church in Glen Ullin with Rev. Willis Bradley officiating. Burial will be held at the Methodist Cemetery in Hebron, ND.


Visitation for Rose will be Friday, November 29th from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. CDT at the church, with a prayer service starting at 6:00 p. m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.


Rose was born February 5, 1928 in Bluegrass ND, to Fred and Pauline (Nicklaus) Swoboda. She was raised on a farm and educated in Bluegrass. She married Isadore Krein on September 25, 1952. The couple raised their two children and shared 61 years of marriage. Rose and Isadore farmed for a couple years after getting married and then became co-owners of the Sweet Shop Restaurant in Hebron for three years. In 1955, they moved to Glen Ullin and opened the Krein Standard service station which was later named Krein Oil Co. Inc. They owned and operated the station until they retired in 1987. Rose enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and word search puzzles. She will always be remembered for her famous chocolate brownies. She loved bowling and playing pinochle with her friends.


Rose is survived by her husband, Isadore and one son, Kelly (Renie) Krein, both of Glen Ullin; three sisters, Alice Neumann and Betty (Bob) Harnden, both of Spokane, WA, and Ruth Winckler of New Salem; one sister-in-law, Esther Swoboda of Spokane, WA; one brother-in-law, Arthur Krein of Dickinson; four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth; two sisters, Irene Kitzan and Darline Muggli; two brothers, Jaka Swoboda and Gust Swoboda; and several brother and sisters-in-law.
