Rueben Huether

Rueben Huether was born in Regent, North Dakota on December 13, 1917 and died peacefully December 24, 2004 in Dickinson at the Evergreen. His long life was richly filled with rewarding work, love for his family, and serving others. His family and friends will remember his wonderful sense of humor and his dedication to many worthwhile endeavors. He was a loyal and encouraging champion of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His occupations included farming, assistant manager at Montgomery Ward, and along with Elsie, owner of several successful businesses in Dickinson. An important part of this life was his love for God. He provided faithful leadership in numerous capacities in the German Congregational Church in Mott as well as the Methodist and Congregational Churches in Dickinson. He loved tinkering with antique cars and enjoyed his association with the Dakota Western Auto Club. Rueben was a long-standing member of the Elks, charter member of the Germans from Russia, The Farmer?s Union, the Eagles, and avid supporter of Dickinson State University. He was active in the state and national Democratic Party which included serving as campaign manager for Roland Redland and as a member of the Business and Development Commission under Governors Guy and Link. He and Elsie traveled to many countries and throughout the United States. They wintered for over 20 years in Mesa, Arizona. His son, David (Mary) preceded him in death. He is survived by Elsie, his wife of 67 years; daughters, Darleen (Don) Hjelmseth and Bonita (John) Paulson; grandchildren, Jacqueline (Scott), Jana (Richard), Jon (Liz) Ami (Tony), Kris, Tara (Fred) and Jasmine (Jon); great-grandchildren, Madeline, Daniel, Graham, Anna, Lily, Leigh and David Logan; brothers, Harold and Walter; sisters, Emma and Gertrude; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in a Celebration of His Life on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 9 a. m. at the First Congregational Church, 102 4th Ave. W. , Dickinson, North Dakota with Rev. Ilo Madden officiating. Interment will be in Dickinson Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation is pending for Friday, January 7, 2005. Remembrances may be made to the David Huether Memorial Art Scholarship Fund, Dickinson State University Foundation, 291 Campus Drive, Dickinson, ND 58601-4896.
