Funeral Service for Rueben Knutson, 94, of Killdeer, ND, will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with Pastor Dorothy Stein officiating. Burial will follow at the Dunn Center Cemetery.
Visitation for Rueben will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with a prayer service taking place at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral.
Rueben passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, surrounded by his family at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer.
Rueben Alvin was born March 31, 1925 in Dunn Center, the son of K.B. ”Bert” and Martha (Knudsvig) Knutson. Growing up he attended grade school and high school in Dunn Center, graduating in 1943. Rueben worked as a ranch hand on the Olson Ranch for several years. On May 28, 1950, Rueben married Phyllis Olson at the Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center. The couple purchased the Olson ranch and made their home north of Dunn Center. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Sharol, Linette, Dean and Gynell. Rueben was very grateful to raise his family and spend his life on his ranch. Rueben was a man of strong faith and served as a Deacon for 12 years, was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent and served on the Normanna Lutheran Church Council. He served as a board member for the West Dunn Fire District and Hope School District. Rueben was a member of the Dickinson Eagles Club and the North Dakota Stockman’s Association.
Rueben was a kind and generous soul, willing to help family and friends whenever he could. He will be remembered for his unforgettable smile and great sense of humor.
Rueben is survived by his children, Sharol Ledin of Omaha, NE; Linette (Kent) Jesperson of Cheyenne, WY, Dean (Donna) Knutson of Dunn Center and Gynell (Gene) Harris of Killdeer; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews, all of which claim to be Rueben’s favorite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, K.B. and Martha Knutson; wife, Phyllis (2014); three sisters; two brothers; grandson, Cedar Harris; daughter-in-law, Norine Knutson.
