Russel Newton, 89, Killdeer, formerly of Belfield, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Belfield Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Lohman officiating. Russel Newton was born February 4, 1914, in Belfield to Locke and Fannie M. (Vanderlin) Newton. He attended school in Belfield and graduated from Belfield High School. He farmed the Newton farm east of Belfield, later on he and Roger Newton purchased a section of land west of Belfield. On June 4, 1941, he married Gladys Larsen in Belfield. He opened the Newton Dairy and which later became the Belfield Dairy. Russel retired in 1972, and sold the farm to Gary Newton. He entered Hilltop Home of Comfort in the late 1990?s. He enjoyed playing cards, pool and traveling the United States. Russel was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Belfield of which he was an Elder. Russel is survived by: five sons, Gary (Julie), Kenneth (Barbara), Robert (Nancy), Teri and Keith Newton all of Belfield; 10 granchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; ex-wife, Gladys Dahl, Dickinson. He was preceded in death his parents, two children, Johnny and Ruthie Newton, two grandchildren, Nancy and Sharmon Newton.
