Ruth passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Ruth Alta was born on May 24, 1923 in a farmhouse in Dunn County ND, the daughter of Edwin and Mae (Blunt) Griggs. Growing up she attended country school two miles from her home, through the eighth grade. Her principal told her, “no use wasting your time going to high school” so Ruth enrolled into Dickinson State College for a few months. There was a shortage of teachers at the time, so Ruth took a teachers test and did better than most so she decided to teach. She became a teacher at Keller School, a country school near Manning, ND, for two years where she taught grades one through eight. Ruth met Mike Boespflug on the street one day when he was in town for his father’s funeral. They were united in marriage on June 4, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Ruth and Mike were blessed with three children, Mary Ann, Patrick, and Kathy. Together the family settled in Glendive where Ruth worked for MDU in the billing department and cleaned business offices and people’s home. She was a ‘Green Thumb’ and enjoyed cleaning for the elderly. They became members of Sacred Heart Church in Glendive and she became a member of the Altar Society. She helped Mike with his custodial job at the Sacred Heart School. When Mike and Ruth moved to Dickinson in 2006, she became a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Ruth belonged to a Quilters Guild, enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards, dancing, listening to Old Time Music, reading, hiking, and in her early years before she was married, she loved motorcycling. She was proud to be the first owner of a Harley in North Dakota, paying $800 with the money she had saved. Ruth will be dearly missed.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Sutton of Bozeman, MT and Kathy (Dan) Egemo of Dickinson ; son, Patrick (Deb) Boespflug of Kalispell, MT; six grandchildren, Travis, Reed, Christopher, Amanda, Michael, Cami; two great-grandchildren, Shay and Skailar.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mike of 55 years; parents, Edwin and Mae Griggs; siblings, infant Lois, Mary, Jim (Betty), John, Henery (Nancy), Oscar (Carol), Clifford and Doris.
