A funeral service for Sally Decker, 75, of Killdeer will be at 1:00 p. m. , Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Hill Top Home of Comfort Chapel with Pastor Tim Voth officiating. In accordance with Sally’s wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will take place at a later date. Visitation for Sally will be one hour prior to the service at Hill Top Home of Comfort. Sally passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, ND. Sally Louise (Stotts) Decker was born in Denver Colorado to parents Shirley and Edna (Axelson) Stotts on September 8, 1940. She was the oldest of four children. She attended universities in both Colorado and California earning her bachelor’s degree in sociology. Sally married Paul Andrew Decker in 1962 and in 1963 their only child, Rebecca, was born. Sally managed a boarding house in Santa Cruz and also was a cataloger at the University of Santa Cruz. Upon their divorce in 1978, Sally and her teenage daughter moved to Dunn Center, North Dakota. Mary Oliveria Machado moved to North Dakota to live with Sally and Becky shortly after. Sally had many occupations where she met and impacted many people in the community. She managed the restaurant in Dunn Center for a number of years and was a coordinator for Community Action in Dickinson ND. She also worked in the post office in Dunn Center. She dealt blackjack for the Lion’s Club and was a production worker for Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing. She worked for Dunn County home health care, an occupation truly close to her heart. Sally loved to garden and could often be found in her garden wearing her floppy sun hat tending to flowers and vegetables. She loved nature and was often called out to rescue bats stuck in people’s houses. She enjoyed classical and jazz music, she was an avid reader and liked to cook. She loved animals and always had pets, including her Pekinese China and her big fluffy orange cat, Stevie. She loved to hear stories about her daughter’s dogs and horses and the wild animals her granddaughter Nicole cared for. Sally was very close to her family and had many friends. Most recently she resided at the Hill Top Home of Comfort. She was a Bingo enthusiast and an avid beader. Her beautiful necklaces are widely dispersed throughout the county. Sally was an advocate for the resident’s rights and care at Hill Top and served as presidentof the resident’s council. Sally will be greatly missed for her beautiful smile, quick wit, and her love of a good joke. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and one brother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Nick Benz; foster daughter, Mary Oliveria; grandchildren: Nicole Benz, Brittney Benz, Robert Benz, Amberleigh Hoots and Jessica Metts; great-grandchildren: Chaydon, Trevyn, Josiah and Jaliyah; her brother, Reid Stotts and sister, June (Stotts) Davis.
