Funeral Service for Samuel ?Sam? Myer, 85, of Baker, MT will be 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at American Lutheran Church in Baker with Pastors Bruce & Reba Kolasch officiating. Interment will follow in Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker with Full Military Rites by the Baker American Legion, Fallon Post #35 and the Montana Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Tuesday, September 27th, and will continue on Wednesday, from 9:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Sam passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Samuel Myer was born in Baker, MT on January 17, 1926, a son of Henry and Sophie (Hanes) Myer. Sam grew up on the Myer farm in the Ollie Community northwest of Baker. He attended Ollie Schools and Baker, High School. At the age of 17, Sam enlisted into the US Army, serving from August 18, 1944 until his Honorary Discharge on August 21, 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his discharge, Sam returned to Baker where he married the love of his life, Evelyn Gladys Duneman. The two were married on December 31, 1948 at American Lutheran Church in Baker. Sam worked for the Montana Department of Transportation in Baker where he worked until his retirement in March of 1978. Following his retirement, Sam and Evelyn started a lawn care and snow removal business. In 1990, Sam and Evelyn retired and spent their time traveling with their camper through out the country; sight seeing and fishing. Sam was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Baker and the American Legion. He was a member of the Fallon Post #35 Firing Squad. Sam is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Myer of Baker, MT; his sister, Pauline Myer of Baker, MT and three brother-in-laws, Arnold Duneman and Ralph (Gloria) Duneman both of Baker, MT and Kenneth (Marion) Duneman of Ballantine, MT; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sophie Myer, his brothers, Francis Myer, Carl Myer, Ray Myer and Albert Myer and sister, Kathy Nicely.
