Sandra passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at her home in Baker, MT after a short battle with Cancer. Sandra Lou Long was born on July 21, 1938, the daughter of John and Winifred (Norris) Long of Burt, IA. In 1944, Sandra?s family moved to Marmarth, ND where she grew up and attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1957. Sandra attended the National Business College in Rapid City, SD. It was in Marmarth where she met the love of her life, Bill Zupanik. On February 7, 1957, Sandra and Bill married in Marmarth and had four children: Vivian, Billy, Valarie and Vicky. The young couple and their family made their home and living farming and ranching in the Knobs Community, southeast of Baker. In 1977, Sandra, Bill and the children moved to Baker where she went on to manage the American Legion Club for the next 20 years. After retiring from the American Legion Club, Sandra worked at the Baker Drug to stay busy and help Vicky and Todd. Sandra enjoyed playing cards, visiting, mingling with her friends and following her grandchildren in their extracurricular school events. She was known for her cooking. She was most famous for her potato salad, beet pickles, and angel food cakes, which she made for numerous people in the community. It made her very proud when some of her cakes sold for over a hundred dollars at various benefits. There was never a selfless moment with Sandy, one of her proudest moments was the opportunity she had to make and present a quilt to a young native American basketball player at a pow wow, whom had just presented her granddaughter with a Star Quilt. She was the type of person who always wanted to give back and it reflected in her character and in her daily activities. There was never a holiday where Sandy did not invite a stranger to join her and her family. Most importantly, her love in life was for her family. Sandra and Bill were blessed with 53 years of marriage. Sandra is survived by her children, Vivian Lubbers, Houston, TX; Billy Zupanik, Billings, MT; Valarie Zupanik Houston, TX; and Vicky (Todd) Overton, Baker, MT; eight grandchildren, Tiffany (James) Wagener, Tyler Coldwell, Melissa Lubbers, Dane Zupanik, Taylor Yates, Mandi (Chad) Varner, Marnee Overton and Bryan Overton; one great-great granddaughter, Kayla Wagener; two brothers, Duane (Carol) Long and Jack Long, both of Billings, MT; sister, Gloria Hendry, Beach, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
