Shane Mulkey

A Celebration of Life Service for Shane L. Mulkey, 42, of Alzada, MT formerly of Ekalaka, MT and Camp Crook, SD will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Monday, July 27, 2009 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with Tom Stieg officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka. Shane passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Albion, MT. Shane Leon Mulkey was born in Ekalaka, MT on May 18, 1967, to Terry Mulkey and Darlene Nies. As a toddler he was recognized by the super-sized black Stetson hat (his Dad’s) and red/black cowboy rubber boots that he wore rain or dry. He attended all of his school years in Ekalaka except for a few years of middle school in Grants Pass OR, while his Mom went to school there. Upon returning to Ekalaka in 1980, Shane was back in school and began his involvement in athletics: track, basketball and football. He was highly competitive and not being on a winning football team his senior year was a huge disappointment. He declined to use a track scholarship to Jamestown, ND. Later he enlisted in the military, but his football injured knee had him sent back from Georgia boot camp. Shane stayed in and around Ekalaka his whole life working in the oil fields, construction, and ranching, etc. His son, Dylan, was born in 1994, to Kathy Talkington. Shane, Kate and Dylan lived in Ekalaka and later Camp Crook, SD. Shane had friends scattered from Miles City, MT to Deadwood, SD. He was proud of Dylan and felt he was the best part of his life. The past five to six years, Shane lived and worked with his special friend, Thebea Thomas, on the Thomas ranch near Albion. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Jim Nies, his paternal grandmother Louise Shuffield and his father, Terry Mulkey. He leaves his mother, Darlene (Louie) Tafoya, Thornton, CO, his son, Dylan Mulkey, Ekalaka, MT; one brother, Cliff Mulkey, Broomfield, CO; his maternal grandmother, Fran Nies, Ekalaka, MT and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was part of large family on both sides and all will miss him.
