Shawn Jason Burghduff, 28 of Camp Crook, SD passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at his home on the ranch. He was born on New Year?s Day, 1976 in Spearfish, SD, the son of Gerald and Rebecca (Tetrault) Burghduff. He attended school in Camp Crook and graduated from Harding County High School in 1994. Shawn was proud to have played on a State Championship Football Team in 1993 and Runner-up in 1992. Shawn attended Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND on a football scholarship. He was grateful and proud to have been chosen to play in the Down Under Bowl in Australia. On August 10, 1996, Shawn married his high school sweetheart, Alicia Elma Clarkson at Buffalo, SD. They lived on the ranch in Camp Crook all of their married life. On May 12, 2002 their son, Dane Merton Burghduff was born. Shawn said that was the best day of his life. Shawn lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed living on the ranch and working with his family north of Camp Crook. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his dirt bike, water sports, playing cards, especially when he could beat Alicia at cribbage. He worked so hard at everything he did. Whether it was ranching, dirt work, mechanizing, welding or completing their house, Shawn took much pride in all of it. Shawn was an active member and director of the Harding County Stockgrowers and the Camp Crook Roping Club as he was just getting started roping. He was a member of the Grand River Lutheran Church and the Camp Crook Volunteer Fire Dept. He was very proud of the local veterans and very thankful for their service to our country. The community depended on Shawn, as he was there to help anyone and everyone. He loved his family and friends. His greatest love was the time he spent with his son, Dane and his wife, Alicia. He will be missed by all. Survivors include his wife, Alicia and son, Dane of Camp Crook; parents, Gerald and Rebecca Burghduff of Camp Crook; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Merton and Susan Clarkson of Ludlow, SD; grandparents: Rose Tetrault, St. Onge, SD, Bill (Mari) Johnson, Spearfish, SD and Ida Clarkson, Buffalo, SD; sister, Natalie Burghduff and special friend, Ryan Glines, Bowman, ND; brother-in-law, Garrett (Nici) Clarkson, Bowman, ND; sister-in-law, Melynda (Dustin) Gress, Ludlow, SD and nephews: Tate Gress, Trevor Gress and Brextin Clarkson. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Kenneth and Edith Mae Burghduff and Carl ?Bud? Tetrault and an aunt, Alice Burghduff Johnson. A Shawn Burghduff Memorial Scholarship for a Harding County High School Football Player will be established.
