A Memorial Mass for Shelly Ann Stormer, 56, of Texas, will be 10:00 a. m. , Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery where Shelly's ashes will be laid to rest alongside her mother, Magdalena (Maggie) Theresa (Betchner) Marx . Shelley Ann (Marx) Stormer, age 56, of Richardson, Texas was called Home For Christmas by Our Lord, on December 23, 2010, while she was preparing her own home for another Christmas celebration for friends and family. Shelley suffered a sudden and apparent massive ruptured cranial aneurism at her North Dallas home, where she lived with her beloved poodle, Patches. She was at the foot of her beautiful Christmas tree. It is apparent that she was making preparations for Christmas. The tree was lit, music was playing, and she was wrapping and packing gifts for her loved ones, friends and family. She died instantly, doing what she most loved; that is, preparing her home for friends and family. She died, as she lived; thinking of others, with her friends and family at the forefront. Shelley was a people person. She loved people, and she would do most anything she could for her friends and for her family. She was caring and thoughtful of others. We will miss her greatly. Shelley was born April 17, 1954 in Dickinson, ND, to Bill Marx and Maggie Betchner, formerly of Gladstone, ND. She was the second of four children, and the only girl. She was Wayne’s little red-haired sister, and throughout her life, big sister to her younger brothers, Alan and Randy. Following their mother’s sudden death in 1963, when Shelley was only nine, she assisted her dad with us younger boys, then five and three; and we remember many a time that Shelley (burnt the soup, and otherwise) cooked the dinners for the family; until our dad remarried to Alice, in 1967. Shelley attended Saint Patrick Grade School in Dickinson. She then attended Dickinson High School (DHS, Class of 1972), where she was active in track (sprints and hurtles), band (French Horn), drill team, debate, and theater (Oliver Twist). She was also involved with Youth Association for Retarded Children (YARC). Upon graduation from DHS, Shelley attended the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks, ND (1973-1974). She was married to Philip Johnson of Grand Forks, ND in 1973, until their divorce in 1982. Shelley first moved to Dallas in 1980, where she worked as a manager of a jewelry store, and a fur salon, and later in the print advertising/ sales business. In 1987 Shelley moved to Santa Ana, near Newport Beach, and just south of Los Angeles, CA, where she subsequently met and married David Stormer (1992), previously of Chicago. She and David were involved in a number of multi-level marketing companies in southern California and nationally; while Shelley also worked with a commercial printing plant, for which she developed an in-house mail service business (1996-2000). Following David’s passing from a stroke (03/29/1999), Shelley started up and managed her own small sized mail servicing/ print business (2000-2005), in which she was much assisted by, and greatly appreciated, her many co-workers and close friends that she then developed. Our dad, who worked for many years at the Dickinson Press, would have been proud that Shelley too became a printer. She lived at this time at South Coast Shores in Santa Ana, CA. She often spoke of the dear friends and neighbors that she enjoyed there, including Rosalie Day and her daughter Sally, and many others. After having experienced a brush with death relating to an acute appendicitis, Shelley returned to Dallas in 2005 to be closer to her brothers, Alan and Randy, and her nephews, Ryan and Will, and her niece, Emma. She very much enjoyed the extra time that God provided to be with her family and friends here in Dallas. She was the focal point of our family here, and frequently hosted get togethers at her home, for pool parties and barbeques with the kids, and for other special occasions when visited by her friends from California including Jim Locker and Herb and Marliss Stockman of California; and when our stepmother, Alice, our aunts (Marion Christianson of Fargo, ND, Kathy Antonchuk of Calgary, Alberta, and Shirley Timms of Moses Lake, WA), or when Uncle Bill and Aunt Anita Betchner of Surprise, AZ, and their children Karin and Kristy (and Jessie), and grandchildren would visit us here in Dallas. New friends, including Accacio (Casio) Bezerra, Miguel Herrera, and Lilly, and many others were always warmly welcomed into Shelley’s home. She loved to host a party, special dinner, or any other occasion where friends and family could come together. She took pleasure in simple things: flowers, a small gift, or a warm hello. She was at her best when around family. She spent countless hours on a family DVD in connection with the most recent Betchner Family Reunion. She loved her birthday luncheons with Emma, and she came to as many of the boys’ sporting events that she could. These times were some of the special gifts that she gave and shared with all of us. We will miss her, and these times together. In Dallas, Shelley served as a legal/ administrative assistant, property manager and executive assistant for a law firm, property management company and physicians’ offices, respectively. She was very conscientious and much enjoyed the people she worked with during this period. She was much looking forward to the new opportunities being afforded her in the upcoming New Year. We will miss her greatly. Requiem aeternam dona eis; Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. (Lord, grant her eternal rest: and let perpetual light shine upon her. )Shelley is survived by her stepmother, Alice (Hauck) Marx-Kuehn of West Fargo, ND; and her two younger brothers, Alan C. Marx, his wife Sandra D. (Munoz) and their son Ryan C. Marx; and Randy P. Marx and his children, William (Will) Wayne and Emma Elizabeth Marx; both of Dallas, Texas, and by numerous aunts and uncles and their families; which she thoroughly enjoyed. She is further survived by her mother in law, Helen Stormer of Naperville, Illinois; as well as by her former mother in law, Alice Bushaw of Grand Forks, ND. Shelley was predeceased by her husband, David Edward Stormer of Naperville, Illinois, and her parents, William (Bill) Wayne Marx and Magdalena (Maggie) Theresa (Betchner) Marx, previously of Dickinson and West Fargo, ND, as well as her older brother Wayne William Marx of Moses Lake, WA. A funeral and memorial service celebrating Shelley’s gifts and resurrection was previously held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Rd. , Dallas, TX 75238-2796 on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1:00 p. m. . Following the service, a reception was held at the adjacent Saint Patrick Parish Center. Dallas arrangements handled by North Dallas Funeral Home, and Dickinson memorial/ interment arrangements being handled by Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. An online memorial has been set up at http://Shelley-Marx-Stormer. memory-of. com where friends and family are invited to share photos, anecdotes and other remembrances celebrating Shelley’s life.
