Funeral Mass for Shirley Arneson, 77, of Belfield will be 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield with Father Shannon Luchts celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Bernard?s Cemetery in Belfield following the service. A Rosary and Vigil Service will be 7:00 p. m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield. Under the loving care of her children, Shirley passed away peacefully Sunday, May 30, 2010, at the home of Steven and Beverly Kelley in Greenwood, WI. Shirley Carol Kessel was born May 2, 1933, to Philip Kessel and Mildred (Polanchek) Kessel Talkington in Dickinson. She grew up and attended school in Belfield. Shirley married Dr. Gene ?Doc? Arneson in May 1980 in Cross Plains, WI. She was employed with the Dane County Visiting Nurse Service for 12 years and also assisted her husband in his veterinary clinic for many years. In 1997, Shirley and Doc moved to Belfield, where she was active in the community and served as president for the Chamber of Commerce, Senior Center, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted Christian and was faithful to her Bible studies. A highlight in her life was when she made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Shirley will be remembered for her jovial nature and free spirit. Her contagious laughter lightened many hearts. Shirley is survived by her husband, Doc; children: Patrick (Betty) Kelley, Nashville, TN, Steven (Bev) Kelley, Greenwood, WI, John (Debbie) Kelley, Alvarado, TX, Donna Hofer, Mikel (Michelle) Kelley, Mt. Horeb, WI, and Markus (Margit) Kelley, Mt. Horeb, WI; siblings: Phyllis ?Tootsie? Roth, Belfield, ND, Patricia ?Patsy? Steiner, Belfield, ND, Charles ?Charlie? (Leona) Kessel, Belfield, ND, Raymond (Cheryl) Kessel, Belfield, ND, Thomas ?Harpo? Kessel, Belfield, ND, Ralph Kessel, Belfield, ND, Leroy Kessel, Newell, SD, Lawrence (Jeannie) Kessel, Fargo, ND, Allen ?Buttons? (Jean) Kessel, Santa Fe, NM, and Valarie ?Cookie? (Dennis) Bergman, Cincinnati, OH; and 12 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Phillip ?Bunny? Kessel and Vernon ?Skeeter? Kessel; and three sisters: Darien Kessel, JoAnn Schroeder, and Joyce Benham.
