Shirley passed away surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Shirley was born August 20, 1954 in Dickinson, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Ficek) Miller. She grew up on the family farm southeast of Manning and attended country school. Shirley graduated from Trinity High School with the class of 1972. During her high school days, she met the love of her life, Gene Dvorak and they were married on September 20, 1972 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Together, they made their home on the Dvorak family ranch. They proudly raised their family of four on the Hills Valley Ranch. Shirley was a loving wife and mom. She worked for the Dunn County Clerk of Courts Registrar of Deeds for over 15 years. In 2006, Shirley and Gene moved to Dickinson where she worked at Deister Ward and Witcher doing abstract and title work. They both retired in 2015. Shirley will be remembered as an honest, fun loving, hard working mom that always put others before herself. Her life revolved around her grandchildren. Shirley’s faith was very important to her and was evident in how she lived her life. This provided her strength and HOPE throughout her battle with cancer. Her contagious smile and heartfelt hugs will be greatly missed. Shirley enjoyed going to the PBR, baking, gardening, canning and flowers were her passion. She loved life and enjoyed attending every sporting, school and 4H activity her kids were involved in. She loved fishing, playing cards, camping, boating, skiing, and traveling on family vacations. Shirley reluctantly enjoyed joining Gene in his various singing shenanigans and entertaining all. She loved cooking and baking, making sure no one left hungry. Shirley was a 4H leader for over 25 years and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Hillside Horizon Homemakers Club, Elks, Farm Bureau, and Stockmen’s Association.
