Funeral Services for Silas Knapp, 76, of Ekalaka, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. on Monday, March 15, 2010, in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka with Pastor Steve DeFord officiating. Interment will follow in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka. Visitation will be 4:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Sunday, March 14th, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Silas passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Dahl Memorial HealthCare in Ekalaka. Silas Delmer Knapp was born at home at Rocky Point, WY on March 15, 1933. He was the second of eight children born to Charles M. ?Bill? and Marie (Brown) Knapp. The family lived in various places in Wyoming, Idaho and Oregon following the sawmill and logging business. Silas graduated from high school in Lebanon, OR. He was drafted into the Army in March of 1953. He was in boot camp at Fort Sill, OK and served 17 months in the Korean War. He was awarded the Sharpshooter medal, United Nations Service medal, Korean Service medal and the National Defense Service medal. In 1958, the family moved to Camp Crook, SD. On June 27, 1959, he met Alicia Jacobs at a dance at Harding, SD. They were married at Harding on June 13, 1960. Ronnie Lee was born on October 29, 1960, and died shortly after. Carl Silas was born on February 20, 1962, Sally Anne on April 10, 1963, and Benjamin Delmer on November 24, 1981. Silas was working for Sanwick Motors in Belle Fourche, SD at the time of their marriage. After marriage he worked for his dad at the sawmill in Camp Crook, owned and operated the Harding Store and Repair, Sinclair Service in Belle Fourche, a sawmill and logging operation in Musselshell, MT, did dirt construction, specializing in road building, operated heavy equipment, and drove over-the-road truck. In 1966, they moved to Ekalaka and established a sawmill. Later, he opened a shop and did mechanical work and sold Jeeps, did heavy equipment and built another sawmill. He was an expert welder and metal fabricator. At the time of his death, he was running the mail route from Ekalaka to Alzada. Silas was a member of First Baptist Church in Ekalaka. His family meant everything to him and the things they learned from him will stay with them for a lifetime. He was a man of many talents; there wasn?t anything he wouldn?t tackle and he figured out what he didn?t know. Silas is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alicia of Ekalaka, MT; sons, Carl (Vicky) Knapp and Benjamin (Bobbie-Lee) Knapp, both of Weare, NH; daughter, Sally (Steve) Meredith of Yakima, WA; grandchildren, Barry Hutton, Brittany and Holly Knapp, Sky and Hunter Knapp; his mother, Marie Knapp of Belle Fourche, SD; sisters, Shirley (Lewis) Wood, Janice Bush, Linda (Brad) Abelseth and brothers, Jerry (Marilyn) Knapp, Don (Sharon) Knapp. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Ronnie, his father, Bill and brothers, Billie Knapp and Ernest ?Dutch? Knapp.
