Funeral Mass for Steve Voltz, 93, of Columbus, MT, formerly of Dodge, ND will be 10:00 a. m. , Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Thomas Grafsgaard celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Martins Catholic Cemetery in Dodge, North Dakota. Visitation for Steve will be from 1:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. , Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a rosary & vigil service being held at 4:00 p. m. Steve passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Beartooth Manor in Columbus, MT. Steve Voltz was born April 8, 1921 in Dodge, ND, the youngest child of 10 children born to Paul and Helen (Masset) Volz. After the death of his mother at the age of five and his father at the age of 13, Steve lived and worked with is older siblings and their families until he joined the Marine Corp in 1944. He served in Guam in 1944 and Iwo Jima in 1945 with the 3rd Marine Division. He was honorably discharged in 1946, at the rank of Corporal. He then went on to serve in the CCC’s for 18 months. Steve married Vieda Schafer on October 19, 1947. They had five children; Victor, Sandy, Chip, Val and Tim. The couple later divorced in 1983. Vieda passed away October 13, 2012. Steve was a truck driver for many years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked for Consoldiated Freightways until he retired for medical reasons. Steve achieved the status of “Million Mile Safe Driver” for the company. After leaving Billings, Steve lived in Twin Bridges and later moved to Melrose until 2010 when he entered Beartooth Manor in Columbus, MT. Steve enjoyed hiking with friends and family in the mountains as well as going hunting and fishing with his children. Steve is survived by his five children, Victor (Chrystal) Voltz, Hebron, IL, Sandy (Hugh) Weiss, Billings, MT, Steve “Chip” (Maureen) Volz, Nashua, MT, Val (John) McCullem, Cle Elum, WA and Tim Voltz, Billings, MT; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW or a charity of your choice. Dad you were a hardworking man, rest in peace.
