Susan Sampson, 47, of Billings, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Deaconess Health Care after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 22, 1957 in Miles City the daughter of Robert and Ruth Townsend. Susan grew up and was educated locally in Baker schools. She went on to attend the University of Montana in Missoula and Eastern Montana College where she completed her Bachelor?s degree with an extended major in Psychology. Susan began work in Glendive and spent several years as a social worker with the State of Montana, working with abused and neglected children. She married Wayne Sampson on December 30, 1978 in Baker. To this union were two children, Jena and Jarod. After moving to Billings, Susan began work as a counselor at Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch. Susan was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed following her children in all of their sporting events from grade school all the way through college. She had a deep passion for working with abused and neglected children as well as helping the kids at YBGR. Susan is preceded in death by her father, Robert. She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; two children: Jena Sampson (finance, Jason Hagemeister) and Jarod Sampson, all of Billings; mother, Ruth Townsend of Baker; three sisters: Becky (Jerry) Knutson of Billings, Dawn ?Skookie? (Tom) Demos of Bakersfield, CA, and Shirley (John) Prosch of Coer?d?alene, ID; four brothers: Jerry (Jan) Townsend of Baker, Herb (Martha) Townsend of Laurel, Steve (Camy) Townsend of Baker, and Scott (Mary) Townsend of Aberdeen, SD; a special aunt & uncle, Georgetta and Herb McCamish of Baker; mother-in-law, Mabel Sampson; brother-in-law, Ron (Nikki) Sampson; sisters-in-law: Donna (Jim) Cody, Kris (Bill) Haines, and Tena (John) Wiley; numerous aunts & uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch in honor of Susan. A Memorial service in remembrance of Susan will be held on Monday, Mar. 29, at 4 PM at the Baker Community Church. Inurnment of the ashes will follow at Bonnievale Cemetery.
