Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil service at 7:00 p. m. Tama Baumgarten, 54, peacefully passed away Jan. 16, 2015, in her home at her family ranch 10 miles south of Belfield after a five-year battle with breast cancer. Tama was born Sept. 27, 1960, in Dickinson, N. D. , to Theodore and Rose Fischer in Dickinson. Several days later, they brought the beautiful girl to their ranch south of Belfield, where she would grow up with four sisters: Jackie, Nancy, Paula and Linda. She graduated from Belfield Public School, where she made many lifetime friends. She left home to graduate from the North Dakota State College of Science with a two-year degree so she could work as a secretary for several companies. On the ranch, she worked with her family to raise and show registered Hereford cattle, a life she soon fell in love with. The love of showing helped her to find her true love, Rollie Baumgarten, whom she married on June 25, 1982. After living for five years in Casselton, N. D. , she returned with her loving husband to the ranch she loved so much, and together they took over the family business of raising cattle and farming. Their love of showing and raising cattle was passed down to others, including their children, April and Jake Baumgarten. Tama loved photography and cooking for her family. She devoted countless hours to the Catholic faith and took joy in serving at local events. She often donated money and helped local organizations, including 4-H, FFA and the North Dakota Junior Hereford Association. She made so many friends while showing cattle and helping throughout the community. Tama also saw the importance of spending time with her family. She would often plan family trips to the South Dakota Black Hills and organize holiday dinners, sometimes inviting neighbors. Her nephews and nieces gathered numerous times at the ranch, where Tama taught them to ride horse and educated them about life on the farm. Tama considered many of her friends a part of her very large family. She cared for them, often lending a hand to many, even when they didn’t ask. She was often called the glue of her family, because she was able to bring so many people together in happiness. She is survived by her husband, Rollie Baumgarten; son, Jake Baumgarten; daughter, April Baumgarten; sisters, Jackie (Sam) Buckley, Nancy Newall, Paula (Gregg) Kostelecky, and Linda (Paul) Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Rose Fischer.
