Funeral Mass for Theodore Kessel, 87, of Dickinson is 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church with Father Keith Streifel officiating. Military Rites will be by the Dickinson Veteran?s Drill Team. Burial will be in the St. Joseph?s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 am to 9 pm, Tuesday, December 9, 2008 with a Rosary and Vigil service being said at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 am to 9am at the Chapel. Theodore ?Ted? Kessel passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Ted was born on August 17, 1921 the son of Joseph and Ottilia (Herauf) Kessel in Dickinson, ND. He grew up and attended St. Joseph?s Grade School and Dickinson High School where he graduated in 1939. Ted attended Dickinson State Teachers College before enlisting in to the US Army in 1940. While in the service, Ted served in the South Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Ted returned to Dickinson where he married his sweetheart, Pauline Faller on May 6, 1946 in the St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson. To this union five children were born. Ted made his career in the grocery business in Dickinson. He retired in 1987 and has made his home in Dickinson since. Ted enjoyed fishing and most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the St. Anthony Club and the German Hungarian Club. Survivors include, his wife, Pauline, Dickinson; a daughter, Kathleen Ann Kessel, Dickinson; three sons, Thomas (Donna) Kessel, Fargo, ND, Theodore (Kathleen) Kessel, Fergus Falls, MN; Timothy (Norene) Kessel, Dickinson, ND; three brothers, George (Irene) Kessel, Christ (Terry) Kessel and Ervin (Marilyn) Kessel all of Dickinson, ND; four sisters, Margaret (Joe) Koffler, Dickinson, ND, Katie Steinke, Sequim, WA, Ludy Kostelecky, Spokane, WA, Dorothy Kudrna, Dickinson, ND; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert; two brothers, John and Frank; and a sister, Judy Freed.
