Theodore Groll

Funeral Mass for Theodore Groll, 91, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a. m. , Saturday, November 23, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation for Ted will be 4:00 p. m. – 8:00 p. m. , Friday, November 22nd at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Ted passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson. Ted was born March 8, 1922 in Dickinson, the son of Anton and Genevieve (Kessel) Groll. He grew up and attended school in Dickinson. After school, he entered the U. S. Navy, serving on the USS Bunkerhill during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went on to serve in the CCC. During this time he met Evelyn Stradinger. Ted and Evelyn were married on October 19, 1946 in Dickinson. The couple made their home in Dickinson where they raised their three sons, Ronald, Donald and James. Ted worked as a meat cutter for over 30 years. He also managed the St. Anthony Club for 10 years. Ted was an avid fisherman with many entertaining fish tales. He enjoyed reading, gaming activities and he was also a great Minnesota Twins fan, who rarely missed watching a game. Ted was a member of the St. Anthony Club, German Hungarian Club, The Odd Fellows, American Legion Club and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Ted is survived by his sons, Ron (Linda Spaeth) of Buckeye, AZ; Don (Jolene) of Bowman, ND; Jim (Sonja) of Beach, ND; nine grandchildren, Chad (Kim) Groll, Deelyn (James) Walsh, Tommy (Janelle) Groll, Jennifer Stodgell, Ryan (Sarah) Groll, Denise (Brian) Osmond, Patty (Brayden) Bretzel, Michelle (Joey) Schwab and Kelly Groll; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, John Groll of Turlock, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Genevieve; wife, Evelyn; and brother, Peter Groll. Family suggest memorials be made to St. Benedict’s Health Center or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Dickinson.
