Theresa passed away, Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Marion Manor Healthcare Center, Glen Ullin, ND.

Theresa Skalsky was born November 20, 1916, the daughter of Christ and Anna (Goldade) Skalsky. She grew up and attended local schools in the Blue Grass/St. Benedict area. After school, Theresa worked as a home care provider for several of the neighbor families. She met Walter Gietzen at a dance on the Ideal Farm and he courted her by horseback. She knew right away that he was the one. On November 22, 1937, they were united in marriage at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. In the mid 1940’s, Theresa and Walter purchased their own farm in rural Glen Ullin. It was here that they made their home and raised their family of ten children. Theresa dedicated her entire life to loving Walter and caring for their children. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed dancing; she and Walter were members of a local Square Dance Group and danced most Saturday nights. Theresa traveled with Walter on Knights of Columbus business to both US coasts and with her family to the Bahamas and Alaska. Caring for her family of ten children brought her great joy and often during the summer months her grandchildren spent time with her and Walter enjoying life on the farm. Theresa was a member of the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers.

Those left to share the legacy of her love include five daughters: Elaine (Alan) Streitmatter, Polson, MT, Joan (Gary) Weiand, Glen Ullin, Phyllis (Michael) Mackey Davenport, FL, Maxine Schmautz, Jamestown, ND, and Karen Gietzen, Bismarck, ND; five sons: Darrel (Janice), Minot, ND, Douglas (Debbie), Minot, ND, Arnold (Barbie), Dent, MN, Mark (Debbie), Bismarck, ND, Keith (Sherrie), Glen Ullin, ND; three brothers, Steve Skalsky of Stevensville, MT, Clem Skalsky of Glendive, MT, and Leo (Lucille) Skalsky of Dickinson, ND; one brother-in-law, Cletus Wehri of Glen Ullin, ND; one sister-in-law, Marlene Skalsky of Sidney, MT; 34 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
