Thomas Oster

A Funeral Mass for Thomas Oster, 68, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m. , Monday, October 8, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dickinson with military rites provided by the Dickinson Drill Team.


Visitation for Tom will be 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 4:00 p.m.


Tom passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.


Thomas Oster was born April 16, 1944 in Dickinson, the son of Joseph and Katherine (Muth) Oster. He grew up and attended school, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1962. Tom enlisted into the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Dickinson and attended Dickinson State University. On November 26, 1965, Tom was united in marriage to Bernadette Hellman. To this union three daughters, Michele, Nancy and Sondra were born. Tom worked in sales and management, which took him to Minnesota, Wisconsin and later back to Dickinson, where he worked in sales and finance in western North Dakota. Tom enjoyed fishing and being at the lake. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees. Tom was a great organizer and always kept things put in place. He loved spending time with his family and especially his granddaughter, Trinity. In the last four months, Tom fought cancer with a brave and courageous heart.


Tom is survived by his wife, Bernadette; three daughters, Michele (Jayme) Renner of Mandan, Nancy (Troy) Fry of Minneapolis, MN, and Sondra (John Kary) Oster of Mandan; granddaughter, Trinity Kary; sisters, Patricia Kovash of Irvine, CA, and Marie Wanner of Mott; sister-in-law, Doris Oster of Redding, CA; special niece, Vonnie (Les) Stradinger of Crookston, MN; as well as numerous other nephews and nieces.


He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee and Joe; sisters and spouses, Rose (Steve) Mosbrucker and Carrie (George) Lengowski; brothers-in-law, John Wanner, Tony Kovash.
