Funeral Mass for LTC Thomas J. Wetsch, 76, of Dickinson, ND will be 10:00 am, Monday, January 26, 2009, Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary?s Cemetery, Richardton, ND. Military Rites will be presented by the Dickinson Veteran?s Drill Team. Visitation will be 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Sunday, January 25, 2009 with a rosary and vigil service at 4:00 pm at Stevenson Funeral Home. Thomas passed away January 19, 2009 at St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson, NDThomas J. Wetsch was born July 28, 1932 to John and Ida (Steckler) Wetsch in Judson, ND. He grew up and attended school in New Salem later graduating from the Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND. Thomas was united in marriage to Marilyn Thomas on July 8, 1953 in Richardton, ND. He attended nursing college at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck and was the first male nurse to graduate in the state of North Dakota. Tom enlisted into the US Navy as a hospital corpsman and was later commissioned as an officer in the US Army. Thomas served in Vietnam for several years. He was honorably discharged after 23 years of service in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Together through the years and many moves Thomas and Marilyn raised their three sons. After retirement Thomas and Marilyn moved to Dickinson where they have made their home since. Thomas enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling and camping. He also enjoyed listening and playing old time music with the accordion, organ and pianoTom was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Dickinson; three sons, Bryant T. Wetsch and David W. Wetsch both of Billings, MT and Daniel J Wetsch, Gig Harbor, WA; a granddaughter, Sarah Wetsch, Billings, MT; a special family member, Vinny; two brothers, Don (Donna) Wetsch, Camano Island, WA and Mike Wetsch, Bellingham, WA; a sister, Betty Ann (Tom) Benton, Edwal, WA; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Wetsch, Mount Vernon, WATom is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tony Wetsch. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful care givers for all of their help during Thomas? illness.
