Funeral Services for Thorvald Bang, 81 of Killdeer will be 2:00 p. m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Killdeer with Pastor Joel Sauerwein, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, rural Killdeer. Thorvald passed away Sunday, September 5. 2010 at his ranch north of Killdeer. Visitiation will be Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer. Thorvald was born August 25, 1929 in Dunn County, the son of Thorvald (Tom) and Mabel (Bergerud) Bang. He grew up and attended country school northwest of Killdeer and graduated from Killdeer High School in 1947. He was drafted into the US Army in October of 1952 and served until April of 1954 when he was given an honorable discharge due to family hardship. Thorvald worked with his brother, Orris in the dirt construction business. In 1958 he purchased his own equipment and began his own business. On February 10, 1962, he was married to Lois Fenton at Killdeer. To this union, four children were born: Allen, Laurie, Ruth and Marie. They made their home on the Bang farm where they operated it along with the construction business. Thorvald?s greatest love was always to be out at the farm and working with his equipment right up to the end. He liked to drive around and visit with his neighbors or anyone who stopped. Thorvald was very patriotic and served in the American Legion Drill Team for many years. He held many offices including: Past Commander, 40/8 member, Master Mason and a member of the Killdeer Masonic 112 Lodge AF & AM, past president of West Dunn Fire District, past board member of the Killdeer Ambulance, St. John?s Lutheran Church. Thorvald was instrumental and donated service in kind for the Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer Swimming Pool, Medicine Hole Golf Course and numerous other leveling projects around Killdeer. He also enjoyed playing cards and dancing. Survivors include his wife Lois Bang of Killdeer; a son, Allen Bang of Killdeer; three daughters: Laurie (Todd) Grevious, Thornton, CO and their children, Denver and Beth; Ruth (Lance) Farmer, Columbus, IN and their children, Sterling, Skyler and Sariah;and Marie (Paul) Oakland, Miles City, MT and their children, Kyra and Haiden; three sisters: Thelma Reems, Killdeer, Lois Reller, Eden Prairie, MN and Shirley Frerck, Billings, MT; He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Orris, Dale and James.
