Todd Corneil, 59, longtime resident and Mayor of Medora, ND passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024 after an extensive and hard fought battle with cancer.

Todd was the second born child of Janice (Carlson) and Clarence Corneil. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, ND. Mastering the duties of a Boy Scout, he became an Eagle Scout exploring the world with his camera. As a sought after teenage photographer, he took on jobs for multiple businesses in the Dickinson community and then dedicated 20 years in education as an Art Teacher.

In 1991, he married and was blessed with his first child, Katherine. With Katherine, he had many adventures while exploring the Arizona landscapes and the North Dakota Badlands.

On June 13, 2003, Todd married Ella-Jo Berger. They started their life together as teachers in Arizona. In September of 2006 they were blessed with their first son, Camron. Their new addition made them realize North Dakota was where they belonged. In June of 2007 the four of them made a move back to Medora, ND. Todd left teaching and joined the family business, Todd’s Old Time Photo & Gifts, full-time with his parents. In 2008 they were blessed with their youngest son, Carter. Todd and Ella-Jo took over the family business where he was active until his death.

In 2008 Todd was appointed to the Medora City Council where he served as a council member until being elected Mayor in 2016. He became a popular leader for his community serving two full terms. He recently won his third term as Mayor during the 2024 election, just days before passing.

Todd enjoyed spending free time with his kids and grandchildren. He had a passion for hunting, capturing photos and traveling throughout the Badlands with his best friends Troy, Kelly and Ryan who were all instrumental in easing his suffering while caring for him as he journeyed through his illness.

Todd leaves behind his wife Ella-Jo; daughter, Katherine Rapp of Dickinson, ND; sons, Camron & Carter Corneil of Medora, ND; his father, Clarence Corneil, Dickinson; his mother & father in-law, Alice & LeRoy Berger, Belfield, ND; his sister, Crystal (Doug) DeWitt of Gainesville, GA; sister-in-law JennyLee (Shilo) O’Brien, Belfield, ND; brother-in-law Micheal (Lora) Berger, Dickinson, ND; his grandchildren, Raven, Serenity and TiaBeanie; 5 nieces, 1 nephew, and 5 great-nieces and nephews.
