Toney Mann was born December 24, 1923 at Mill Springs, Missouri the second youngest of fifteen children to George and Mary Smith Mann. He grew up and attended local county schools in Mill Springs. At the age of twenty, Toney enlisted in the Army and served as a paratrooper during World War II. After being discharged from the Army he worked at the freight docks in St. Louis, MO. Toney then married Marie Clay and they were blessed with five children. In 1959, Toney moved his wife and children to Redding, California, where he worked on Whiskey Town and Trinity Dams. He had a passion for music and began to play in the 1960?s, and recorded many records and albums, never to work construction again. Toney moved again to Rapid City, South Dakota in the late 1970?s, it was at this time, that Toney met Noreda Crow, and they have been united in love for over twenty-seven years. They spent time in Poplar, Montana in the 1980?s before moving to Marmarth, North Dakota, where they have been since. Toney enjoyed playing music, hunting and fishing. He especially loved Christmas, and looked forward to dressing up as Santa Claus. Toney passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Survivors include: his wife: Noreda, Marmarth, North Dakota; one son: Jeff (Laurie) Mann, Sturgis, South Dakota; two daughters: Elaine (John) Martucci, Green Valley, California, Anita (Rick) Caulk, Elk Grove, California; one step-daughter: Candy (Ed) Seieroe, Black Hawk, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandsons. He is preceded by his parents, two daughters, one son, one step-son, twelve brothers, and two sisters.
