Toni Hughes

Burial for Toni E. Hughes, 72, of Ekalaka, MT, will take place in Beaver Lodge Cemetery at a later date.  Toni passed away on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 at her home.  Toni E. Hughes was born June 13, 1947, in Miles City, MT, the daughter of Damian and Alice (Clausen) Culver.  Toni attended Ekalaka Grade School and graduated from Carter County High School in 1965. She attended Montana State University and in 1968 she graduated from Northwest Dental Technical College, Portland, OR.  She married Donald Rushford Hughes June 27, 1970.  Toni moved back home to Ekalaka in 1978 to help run the family grocery business.  She and Donnie purchased the Locker where many around had the pleasure of working and visiting with Toni, not to mention getting to enjoy her fabulous soups she made daily.  Toni finished her working career at Dahl Memorial Hospital.  Toni enjoyed relationships made with co-workers and spending time with all the residents.  Toni’s favorite times were with her children, cooking, traveling and visiting with many of her friends and family.  Her love for animals in general, especially her kitties, was unwavering.  Toni was a loving caretaker to everyone she crossed paths with.  She was a wonderful mother to her children, as well as being a loving second mom to many others.  Toni always opened her arms and doors to many of friends and family, whether it was for a bite to eat or a night stay at the Hughes Hotel.  Toni is survived by her loving children, Damian Hughes (Boise, ID), Bryan Hughes (West Fargo, ND), Christian Hughes (Ekalaka, MT) and Allison (Jim) Houston (Bismarck, ND); and brother, David Culver (Tacoma, WA).  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Hughes, sister, Mary A. Culver, and her parents.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Beaver Lodge Cemetery and any cards can be mailed to Hughes Family at PO Box 230, Ekalaka, MT  59324
