Tony passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home south of Dickinson, as he chose.
Anton “Tony” Biel was born April 30, 1921 on the family farm near Dodge, ND, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Neurohr) Biel. He grew up and attended school at the American-New Hungary District Country School. Tony continued to work on the family farm until he entered the CCC’s and spent time in South Eastern Montana. He returned to the Lefor area where he began his career in farming. During this time, he met Helen Laub and the two were married on June 25, 1946. Tony and Helen raised their 2 children on two different farmsteads south of Dickinson. They moved to the current farm, which they built from scratch, in 1967. There was nothing he enjoyed more than watching the cycle of life on the farm, from watching seeds turn into plants, to cows producing calves. It was routine to take Helen out to view the first crocuses of spring. Tony was passionate about all of his endeavors from being part owner of Modern Implement to farming and ranching. Tony enjoyed taking hunting trips to Montana with friends and relatives in his early years. At one point he and his brother-in-law captured a bear cub. Tony was an active member at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, serving on various committees. He was a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, and involved in the Farm Bureau Crop Improvement Association.
Tony is survived by his son, Gerald (Laurie) Biel of Dickinson; daughter, Kathleen (Randy) Schroeder of Cave Creek, AZ; grandchildren Alyssa Biel of Rapid City, SD; brothers, Nick (Betty) Biel, and Emery Biel both of Dickinson; and sisters, Dorothy Kolling, and Alice Baar both of Dickinson, and Rosalie Hunke of Richardton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Biel; wife Helen Biel and a brother, Adam Biel.
