Funeral Mass for Tony Gartner, 68 of Killdeer will be 10:00 a. m. Saturday, December 4, 2004 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father Jerry Ruelle, OSB Celebrating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in rural Killdeer. Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2004 from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at the Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer, continuing on Saturday on hour prior to service at the the Church. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p. m. Friday, at the Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer. Tony passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at his home on the ranch Northwest of Killdeer, North Dakota. He was born February 6, 1936 at Glenn Ullin, ND, the son of Frank and Barbara (Dukart) Gartner. Tony grew up and attended county schools in the New Hradec area and also in Dickinson. He began working on various ranches as a young man. Later he started working construction with heavy equipment. Tony returned to the family ranch in 1964 where he has operated the ranch and stayed active until the time of his death. Tony was always considered a ?Jack of all Trades?, over the years he had worked for Orris and Thorvald Bang Construction, the gas station, Leo?s Bar and had worked on and off over the last 30 years for the Quilliam Ranch. He was an avid reader and a local historian enthusiast always being able to recall a date or how many acres and what was planted in a certain field. Over the years Duane relied on Tony?s ability to recall many things. Tony was married to Elaine Parker Lund on June 11, 1988 in Killdeer and together they had ten great years together. He was independent and had a very strong constitution. Tony always had a big heart and a lot of love for his step children and especially his nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces He enjoyed attending rodeos, was a lifetime member of the Killdeer Saddle Club, a member of the Killdeer Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the St. Joseph?s Catholic Church. Survivors include: four step-sons: Bob (Mary) Lund of Park River, ND, Ron (Theresa) Lund, Terry Lund and Mark Lund all of Thief River Falls, MN; a brother, Duane (Julee) Gartner of Killdeer; a sister, Delores Schmalz of Dickinson; a sister-in-law, Cheryl (Scott) Boyce of Killdeer; a special niece, Rita (Blake) Heinz of Brockett, ND; nieces and nephews: Joann Erickson, Jerry Schmalz, Jane Schriock, Jeffery Schmalz, Ronnie (Bonnie) Schmalz, Roger (Tasha) Gartner, Justin (Kate) Gartner, DeAnn (Matt) Zander, Kara (Taylor) Bang, Kodee Gartner and Drew Gartner; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: David Gartner and two infant brothers; and a nephew, Darrell Schmalz.
