Funeral Services for Vaile A. Pender, 74, of Dickinson is 10 a. m. , Monday, September 3, 2007 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor Steve Tangen officiating. Military Rites will be by the Dickinson Veteran?s Drill Team. Burial will be Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 2:00 CST in the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery in Mandan, NDVisitation will be Sunday, from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Vaile passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at his home in Dickinson. Vaile grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks, Minnesota where he also graduated from High School. He enlisted in the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Vaile returned to East Grand Forks where he met Janet G. Skyberg and they were united in marriage on August 5, 1956 in East Grand Forks. He attended the Lake Region College in Devils Lake and later transferred to Dickinson State University. After attending the Police Academy, Vaile returned to Dickinson where he began working for the Dickinson Police Department. Vaile retired from the Police Department in 1983 and continued to make Dickinson their home. Vaile enjoyed golfing, fishing, cards, crossword puzzles, building birdhouses and especially teaching his family and friends the game of golf. He also loved and enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and having them all for family gatherings. He was member of the St. John Lutheran Church and the Elks all of Dickinson. Survivors include, his wife of 51 years, Janet, Dickinson; three sons, Brad (Pat) Pender, Dickinson, Steven (Karen) Pender, Williston and Daniel (Danielle) Pender, Dickinson; a daughter, Gayle (Blaine) Dukart, Dickinson; two brothers, Tom (Eunice) Pender, Moreno Valley, CA and John Pender, East Grand Forks, MN; a sister, Judy (Don) Gauthier, LaMarida, CA; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James, Ray and Lloyd and three sisters, Alice Jean, Shirley Ann and Dorothy Matcha.
