Val Sickler

Val Sickler, 89, Dickinson, died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a. m. Saturday, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with his grandson Fr. Wayne Sattler celebrating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be Friday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p. m. led by Fr. Wayne Sattler. Val Sickler was born September 4, 1913, in Hirschville, ND to Val, Sr. and Elizabeth (Freer) Sickler. He was raised in the Hirschville area. He married Regina Mischel at St. Phillip’s Church, Hirschville on July 12, 1937. They farmed in the Hirschville area until 1963, when they moved to Dickinson. Regina died in June of 1981. Val married Marie Stoltz on May 9, 1983, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He loved to fish, play cards and travel. He especially loved his grandchildren and was very proud of his family. Val was a member of the K of C Fourth Degree. Val is survived by his wife, Marie, Dickinson; daughter, Arlene Sattler, Minneapolis, Minn. ; sons, Art (Rose), Norbert (Loretta), and Bob (Janel), all of Dickinson; step sons, Terry (Joann) Stoltz, Reardon, Wash. , and Tom (Sue) Stoltz, Dickinson; step daughters, Jeanette Weaver, Littleton, Colo. , Michele Stoltz, Dickinson, and Gisele (Fred) Walter, Fullerton, Calif. ; 43 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild; brothers, Frank V. , Gladstone, Albert (Dorothy), Gladstone, and Fred (Gladys), Seattle, Wash. ; sisters, Barbara (Bill) Lantz, Sun City, Calif. ; Elizabeth Brost, Dickinson, Theresa Kacalek, Woodburn, Ore. , and Josephine (Ed) Mack, Spokane, Wash. ; and brother-in-law, Ray Martin, Cour D’Alene, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina; one son, Larry; parents; brothers, Tony and Matt; sisters, Marge Martin and Sr. Lornette; brothers-in-law, Ray Brost and Al Kacalek; sisters-in-law, Rose Sickler, Tillie Sickler and Viola Sickler; and step-son, Michael Stoltz.
