Funeral Mass for Valentine Heck, 90 of Dickinson will be1:00 p. m. Thursday, June 23, 2005 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Jim Braaten celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Dickinson. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2005 from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Dickinson. Valentine passed away Sunday, June 19, 2005 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Valentine was born October 16, 1914, in Stark County, the son of Jacob and Christine (Lantz) Heck. He grew up and attended country school in the Schefield area. In 1936, Valentine enlisted and served in the CCC and served in Custer, SD, Remer, MN and Larimore, ND until he was discharged in 1939. On November 12, 1940, Valentine married Beatrice Urlacher at St. Helens, ND. They later purchased a farm southwest of New England in the west Rainy Butte area, where they farmed for almost 30 years. In 1970 they retired and moved to Dickinson where they have made their home since. In 2004 Beatrice passed away and due to failing health he made his home at St. Benedict?s Health Center. Valentine enjoyed working in his yard, dancing, bowling and visiting with his neighbors and relatives. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Eagles, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Pius Verein. Survivors include two sons: James (Bernice) Heck, Dickinson; Ernest (Betty) Heck, Missoula, MT; a brother, Anton Heck of Belfield; a daughter-in-law: Betty Heck, Dickinson, ND; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sons: Lavern Heck and Timothy Heck; 3 brothers: David Heck; Frank Heck and Matthew Heck; two sisters: Rose Frank, and her infant twin sister.
