Funeral Mass for Valentine B. Kerner, 76 of Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Jeff Zwack, celebrating. Interment will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Dickinson. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, 2005 from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service led by Deacon Ron Wolberg at 7:00 p. m. , at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 a. m. to 9:00 a. m. at Queen of Peace. Valentine passed away Saturday, September 17, 2005 at his home in Dickinson. It was 56 years to the day from when he first met Mary at a dance on September 17, 1949. Valentine Benedict Kerner was born February 14, 1929, the son of Kasper and Theresa (Keller) Kerner near Gladstone, ND. He grew up on the family farm, attended school in Gladstone, and graduated from Gladstone High School. Val enlisted in the US Army and served in the infantry. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Dickinson where Val was united in marriage to Mary Thielen on November 27, 1951 in Dickinson. He began working for Mann?s Auto Supply before going to work for the North Dakota State Highway Department in 1956 where he worked in the Truck Regulatory Division. In 1971, he was appointed the District Supervisor and worked there until his retirement. In 1982, Val worked at Hi-Line Trucking, Inc. as office manager and truck dispatcher until 1988. Val began working at Pixley Transportation, transporting railroad personnel until he retired in 1989. Along with all of Val?s jobs, he farmed on his father?s farm near Gladstone until 1984. Val and Mary continued to make Dickinson their home. Val enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars and mechanics, playing cards, dancing (waltzing), taking pictures and especially presenting slide shows at family gatherings. Survivors include, his wife, Mary, Dickinson; three sons, Clyde (Bonnie) Kerner, Dickinson, Kevin (Audrey) Kerner, Beulah, ND and Clayton Kerner, Dickinson; his twin sister, Marian (Richard) Lefor, Gladstone; seven grandchildren; Jason (Denise) Kerner, Casey, Kayla and Kimberly Kerner, Kandace Kerner (fianc?, Cory King); Calvin and Valarie Kerner; and two great-grandchildren: Regan and Aidan. His parents preceded him in death.
