A Liturgy of the Word service for Valentine B. Kostelecky, 84, of Dickinson will be at 10:00 a. m. , Monday, July 27, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Deacon Bob Zent celebrating. Military Rites will be provided by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation for Valentine will be from 8:00 a. m. – 10:00 a. m. on Monday, July 27 at Stevenson Funeral Home. Valentine passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND. Valentine was born November 11, 1930 in Dickinson, the son of Anton and Emma (Zastoupil) Kostelecky. Growing up he attended local schools before enlisting into the US Army. He served during and after WWII and following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Dickinson area. On October 6, 1958, Valentine married JoAnn Osterloth. They were blessed with four sons, Maynard, Kenneth, Ronald and Michael. The family moved south of Elgin where they farmed and raised the boys. Val worked various jobs, as well as construction. After the family farm was sold, Val moved to Lemmon, SD and later to Dickinson in 2005. St. Benedict’s Health Center has been his home since that time. Val enjoyed spending time with his children and attending their sports activities. He enjoyed playing cards (especially whist), bingo, pulling the slot machine, gardening and helping his fellow residents at St. Benedict’s. Valentine was a member of the American Legion. Valentine is survived by his sons, Kenny (Nancy) of Dickinson, Ron of NE, Michael of Chicago, IL; brother, William (Margaret) Kostelecky of Richardton; sister, Hattie (Louie) Pavlicek of New Hradec; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kostelecky of Dickinson and Catherine “Cathy” Kostelecky of Richardton; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Emma; son, Maynard; brothers, Adolph, Joseph and Albert; and sister, Martha Kadrmas.
