Velma Amelia Sailer was born on November 17, 1931, the daughter of Leonard and Katie (Roesler) Sailer near Dodge, ND. She grew up and attended school in Dodge, graduating from high school in 1949. Velma moved to Bismarck and began working as a bookkeeper at Builders Supply Co. Velma took a blind date with a young man from Sims, ND named Jack. On Valentine’s Day in 1956 they were united in marriage in Bismarck, ND. Together, over the next 56 years, they have laughed, loved and raised their three boys, Scott, Bruce and Craig. The family moved to Dickinson in 1958 and have made it their home since. Velma was always giving of her time and talent and volunteered many hours to various clubs and organizations. She was Den Mother for Cub Scouts, a member of a sewing club, investment club, Hospital Auxiliary, Dorcas Society and a Medora Volunteer. Velma was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church and a member of the Sons of Norway. Almost any day or evening she would find time to listen to the Minnesota Twins baseball game to cheer them on. She especially liked Harmon Killebrew, her favorite player. Velma enjoyed hosting the holiday dinners and events and always having everyone around her table was a highlight. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years Velma stood alongside her husband, Jack and supported his many years of public service and sacrifices they both gave. Survivors include, her husband, Jack of Dickinson; three sons, Scott (Kathy) Olin and Dr. Bruce (Irene) Olin both of Dickinson, ND and Craig Olin of Jamestown, ND; a brother, Alvin (Shirley) Sailer, Bismarck, ND; a sister, Mabel (Ervin) Lorenz, Dodge, ND; grandchildren, Alex (Kim) Olin, Ben Olin, Seth Olin, Amelee Olin, Jonathon (Callie Stacy) Olin, Ryan Olin, Jeff Olin, Regan Olin, Jack Olin and Allison Olin; two great-grandchildren, Adalynn Olin and Arianna Olin; and a sister-in-law, Leila Sailer, Mesa, AZ.
