Verlyn Gilge

A funeral service for Verlyn Gilge, 87, of Dickinson, formerly of Halliday, will be 1:00 p. m. , Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Burial will take place in Halliday Cemetery. Visitation for Verlyn will be 8:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Verlyn passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson. Verlyn Cynthia was born July 9, 1926 in Dodge, the daughter of Roy and Alice (Hendricksen) Burgess. She grew up and attended school in Dodge, graduating from high school in 1944. Verlyn moved to Bismarck and worked for the Bank of North Dakota. She met Carty Gilge and the two were united in marriage on October 31, 1947 in Manning. Together the couple moved to Halliday where they farmed and raised their children, Wayne, Glenn, Barb, Donia, and Nora. In 2004, Dickinson became home for Verlyn. She loved to sew and was very active in quilt-making. Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Halliday was an important part of her life. Verlyn enjoyed playing cards, doll restoration, and hardanger embroidery, making many wonderful pieces for her family. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verlyn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson. Verlyn is survived by her sons, Wayne (Donna) Gilge and Glenn Gilge; daughters, Barb Harrington and Donia (Clement) Packineau; six grandchildren, Aric (Carmela) Gilge, Ryan (Jennifer) Gilge; and three great-grandchildren, Marshall, Keira, and Lucy; and good friend, Anne Vaagen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Alice Burgess; husband, Carsten; daughter, Nora Gilge; brothers, Gerald, Coburn, Arlie Burgess; and sister, Mavis Carlson.
