Verna HalterFuneral Services for Verna Halter, 81, of Dickinson will be 1:00 p. m. , Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastor Steve Tangen and Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Burial will follow in the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p. m. Verna passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Verna was born June 3, 1927 in Halliday, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Weisenburger) Weisenberger. She grew up on the family farm outside of Halliday and attended country school until the seventh grade. She went on to graduate from Halliday High School. On June 3, 1947 she was united in marriage with Eugene Halter in Halliday. The couple made their home in Dodge until moving to Dickinson in 1954. To this union their son Grant and daughter Ginger were born. Upon moving to Dickinson Verna worked out of her home doing alterations and sewing for many customers. She jokingly called herself ?Alter Halter?. During this time Verna also worked at St. Luke?s Nursing Home from 1976-1990. She enjoyed the residents and cared so much for everyone there. She received the ?Employee of the Month? plaque which she proudly displayed inside of her home. Verna moved into Evergreen in 2005 and enjoyed her time there. She felt blessed to be cared for by such wonderful people. Verna loved doing crossword puzzles, gardening, dancing and decorating her house. Her children and grandchildren were the pride of her life. Verna was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her faith was very important to her as well as reading the Bible and her daily devotions. She is survived by her son, Grant (Sheila) Halter, Canon City, CO; a daughter, Ginger (Howard) Handcock, Dickinson; grandchildren: Sarah (Jesse) Flath, Hazen, Rebecca Miller, Dickinson and Daniel Miller, Los Angeles, CA; a brother James (Sherryl) Weisenberger, Grand Forks and three sisters: Lucille (Dale) Schmoldt, Cody, WY, Elna Mackenzie, Jamestown and Karen (Peter) Reis, Belfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene, a grandson, Jesse Miller and a brother Raymond Weisenberger.
