Funeral Service for Verne Robert Hitchcock, 90, of Baker, MT will be at 3:00 p. m. on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Baker, MT with Pastor Levi Durfey officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker. Military Rites will be accorded by the Baker American Legion, Fallon Post #35. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Thursday, April 23rd, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. in the Chapel, and will continue from 9:00 a. m. until 12 noon on Friday, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Verne passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Quality Personal Care in Baker. Verne Robert Hitchcock was born a son of George W. and Alta F (Bromley) Hitchcock on May 5, 1918 in Baker, MT. Verne grew up in Baker, where he attended school, until the family moved to Clarks Fork, ID where he graduated. Following graduation, Verne entered the United States Army in 1941, and served until his Honorable discharge in 1945. Verne returned to Baker, and in December of 1945, he started a career with the L. Price Company, which lasted for 35 years, until his retirement in May of 1980. Soon after joining L. Price, Verne went from mechanic to being the shop foreman. After his retirement, Verne did private mechanic work for various farmers until 1995. Verne met Ella Doris Pleissner, and the two were married at the First Baptist Church in Baker on February 9, 1951. To this union two sons were born, Victor Paul and Verne David. Verne and Ella continued to make Baker their home. Ella passed away on January 5, 2008. In 1936, Verne accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Verne was a very active member at First Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon from 1947 until 1975, and Sunday School Secretary from 1948 to 1979. Verne is survived by his two sons, Victor Paul of St. Louis, MO and Verne David (Shirley Roseland) of Box Elder, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alta, his loving wife of over 57 years, Ella, and his two sisters, Ruth and Alice and his brother, George ?Bill?. Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker, MT.
