Funeral Mass for Vincent Tuhy, 77, of Dickinson is 9:30 am, Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, ND with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND and Military Rites by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Tuesday, Dec 8, 2009 followed by a Rosary and Vigil Service being said at 7:00 pm. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. Visitation will continue from 8:00 am to 9:00 am on Wednesday at the chapel. Vincent passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson. Vincent was born on February 18, 1932, the son of Frank and Mary (Novotny) Tuhy in Stark County. He attended schools in South Heart and later Dickinson where he graduated from high school. Vincent enlisted in the US Navy in1950 and served on the USS Roanoke during the Korean Conflict. The USS Roanoke was an admiral flag ship. During his tour of duty, he was fortunate to see all but a handful of countries around the world. Also during the service, Vincent was married to Dorothy Haller on July 9, 1951 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson. After his discharge in 1954, they moved from Norfolk, Virginia to a farm north of South Heart. They spent the next 55 years farming and raising their two children. Vincent and Dorothy retired from farming in the mid 90?s and have continued to make their home on the farm. Together they have enjoyed traveling often to many European Countries that he saw during the service. He also enjoyed singing in several choirs especially the church choir, playing the organ and fishing. Vincent was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Workman, DSU Coral Union, Crop Improvement Association which he served as President and District Director. Vincent received an Agriculturist Award from NDSU and was presented with a Soil Conservation and Farmstead Award from the SCD. His love for farming was shown through his farm and land and his love was given to his wife, children and especially his granddaughter. Survivors include, his wife, Dorothy, Dickinson, ND; a daughter, Kathy (Craig) Hummel, Bismarck, ND; a son, Duane (Cordella), Killdeer, ND, a sister, Hattie (Mansvetus) Steffan, Dickinson and a granddaughter, Cristy Tuhy, Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Laudie and an infant Charlie; and a sister, Molly Kubas.
