Rosary and Vigil Service will be Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 4:00 p. m. at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church, Belfield. Viola passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at SCCI Hospital in Mandan, ND. Viola was born August 21, 1928 in Stark County, the daughter of Rone and Kathryn (Zentner) Miller. She grew up and attended country schools and Belfield High School. Viola attended business school in Fargo where she received her certificate. On November 26, 1946, Viola was married to Pete Kordonowy. Viola took on the responsibility of a ready-made family and this union was blessed with six more children. They made their home on the Kordonowy farm north of Belfield where they raised their family. Viola once wrote, ?Much canning and cooking goes into the raising of a large family, but with the many little hands that help shell peas or husk corn, the work gets done even with the talk and giggling that goes with it. Their reward was homemade bread and jelly topped off with a glass of cold milk. Some of the best years were the ten years Florence Obrigewitsch and I taught CCD to the neighborhood children that congregated at the Dennis School once every week all winter long. It was nice to see a little sweet soft-eyed child in prayer, and the smile of ?Thanks? when a seventh and eighth grader got a higher mark on a religion test than expected. The drive home, with the moonlight sparkling on the snow, gave one the feeling that the Lord was with us. This put a smile on the faces and contentment in the hearts?. Viola was a member of St. Bernard?s Catholic Church, Regina Guild and was past president of Christian Mothers Guild in Belfield. In 1979, Viola made her home in Bismarck where she worked in sales at Sears and K-Mart. She was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. During this time, she spent many hours sewing, reading, playing the piano and accordion, league bowling and volunteering time at the YMCA. She enjoyed traveling to her childrens? homes, especially to see her grandchildren. A highlight of her travels was a trip to Alaska. In her later years, one of her joys was playing piano to entertain fellow residents at the Waterford in Bismarck. Survivors include two sons, Arnoul Kordonowy, Killdeer, ND and Ron Kordonowy, El Mirage, AZ; seven daughters: Pat (Phil) Havnvik, Belfield, ND, Linda (Harry) Chornuk, Watford City, ND, Carlotta Kordonowy, Bismarck, ND, LaVetta ( Ed) Gonzales, Lakewood, CO, Tena (John) Weinand, Hazen, ND, Wanda Kordonowy, New York, NY and Myra (Lee) LeCaptain, St. Cloud, FL; a sister, Anna Mae (Pat) Reynolds, Glendive, MT; nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo; and a sister, Eleanor Chaska.
