She attended rural country school near Fairfield and in later grades attended school in Grassy Butte. While she was attending school there she worked in the historic Grassy Butte Post office. At age 18 she lived on a farm south of Manning, ND taking care of the Tom and Adelia Johnson family. She stayed there for ten years doing various household and farm jobs that they required her. Then in late 1955 she was invited to a dance at the old dance hall near Oakdale, ND; there she met Arthur (Art) Lundberg. They were married on her birthday November 18th, 1956. To this union they had four sons – Arlen, Albert, Loren and Larry. Viola “Vi” belonged to Eastern Star and Homemakers club and went to church at St. John’s Lutheran in Killdeer. Viola always made sure that everyone had plenty to eat. She loved her flowers and could start them from a cut stems or seeds; she did have a green thumb when it came to plants. Viola was a great cook and baker; she won prizes for her apple pies. If she knew company was coming, she would make cookies, bars, cakes, buns or pies, but when it came to branding time, it was a special event to enjoy her homemade caramel rolls. You always had to have coffee with her and sit and visit about the latest events in the neighborhood. She enjoyed embroidery and quilting. She especially enjoyed embroidering dish towels. She spent many hours working on the fine detailed work. Word search and puzzles were another pastime of hers. She also enjoyed watching the many birds that frequented the bird feeder near her kitchen window. Charlie Pride music was her favorite; she also did like old fashioned church music, waltzes and polka music as well. Viola and Art love to go to dances and enjoyed socialization.
