Funeral Services for Violet Straub, 76, of Plevna, MT, will be 10:30 a. m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Emanuel Evangelical Free Church, Plevna, with Pastor Bruce Inion officiating. Burial will follow at the Community Union Cemetery, Plevna. Visitation will be from 3:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Friday, July 30, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, MT, with a Prayer Service taking place at 7:00 p. m. Violet passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at MedCenter One in Bismarck, ND. Violet Rosena Strobel was born on September 5, 1933 at Marsh, Montana, the daughter of Ludwig and Emma (Opp) Strobel. She grew up the oldest of seven siblings. She attended grade school in Fallon and rode the school bus to Terry were she graduated from high school in 1951. Violet attended Teacher College in Yankton, SD and received her teaching degree. She was married to Reinhold Straub on June 10, 1956. Violet always remembered the 104-degree day and how dry the year was. Together they made their home on the family ranch 16 miles northwest of Plevna where they raised their three children, Angela, David and Cynthia. Violet taught country school for several years and for one year in Plevna. She later filled in as a substitute teacher in Plevna for many years. Violet and Reiny spent the next 54 years on the ranch, which they both dearly loved. Over the years Violet loved being able to substitute and was able to stay connected to the students in the Plevna area. She will be remembered as the ?Penmanship lady? by her students. Violet enjoyed working outside keeping up the yards and planting trees. She also enjoyed sewing, embroidering and baking. Violet was known for her beautiful embroidered dish towels, chocolate chip cookies, and pot holders. Violet was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Plevna and the Ladies Aide, in which she held numerous offices and volunteered many hours. She was a member of the Plevna Senior Citizens, RSVP, and served as an election judge for many years. Violet enjoyed playing cards and board games, especially Scrabble, and attended or listened to the Plevna Cougars where ever they were playing. Violet loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had many wonderful times with them all. Violet?s heart was broken with the sudden death of her son, David in 2007. She leaves behind her husband, Reiny of 54 years; two daughters, Angie (DeLynn) Meidinger, Fallon and Cindy (Wm) Coutts, Bismarck, ND and her daughter-in-law, Joyce Straub, Baker; six grandchildren, Cody (Kathy) Meidinger, Fallon, MT, Lorianne (Chris) Klobofski, Havre, MT, Jasi Johnson, Baker, MT, Levi, Johnson, Baker, MT, Brittany Straub, Baker, MT, and Alex Coutts, Bismarck, ND; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, and the twins, Ethan and Owen; two brothers, Darwin (Darlene) Strobel, Fallon, MT and Kenneth (Karen) Strobel, Miles City, MT; four sisters, Verna (Ron) Cole, Highlands Ranch, CO, Virginia Stickel, Terry, MT, Vivian (Derald) Reno, Sidney, MT and Vera (Lyle) Sackman, Fallon, MT; two sister-in-laws, Rose and Frieda Straub both of Baker, MT and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son David, a brother-in-law, Reuben Stickel. A memorial has been established in memory of Violet Straub for a teaching scholarship at the Plevna High School, and can be mailed to PO Box 158, Plevna, Montana, 59344.
