Virginia Patricia Scott was born July 22, 1922, in Greeley, CO, to Charles and Hazel (Morcom) Scott. At the age of six months, her family moved to Dickinson, and at the age of five, they moved to Minot. In 1939, they moved back to Dickinson. Virginia attended Dickinson State Teachers College and the University of Denver School of Commerce. She worked full time in Dr. Chernausek?s office at the Chernausek, Roger and Gumper Clinic until she was married. Virginia married Donovan B. Benzie on September 7, 1943. They lived in Watertown, SD, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and in 1960, moved to Dickinson. In 1981, they moved to Crocus Hill Farm, south of Taylor. Virginia was initiated into P. E. O. Chapter B of Dickinson in 1942, and in 1944, she demitted to Chapter AI in Ft. Meyers, Fla. In 1954, she was on the organizational committee for Chapter BE in Clearwater, Fla. , in 1958, she demitted to Chapter K in Atlanta, Ga. , and in 1960, she demitted back to Chapter B in Dickinson. Virginia became a charter member of Chapter AQ in 1965. She had several part-time jobs in Dickinson, including Reeds Department Store, Helen?s Frock Shop (the first one) and J. C. Penney?s. Virginia?s hobbies were reading, embroidery, crocheting, music and doll collecting. Virginia is survived by her husband, Donovan, Taylor; daughters, Patricia (Von) Riddle, Dickinson, Donna (Bruce) Wandler, Auburn, WA, Karen (Kent) Saunders, Bloomington, MN, Judith (John) Dalton, Dickinson; grandchildren, Lester Riddle, Patricia Riddle (Anthony) Morton, Virginia Wandler (Steve) Taylor, Beth Wandler (Troy) Burges, Porsche Wandler (Bryan) Appleman, Andreana Saunders, Geffrey Dalton and Katharine Dalton; one brother, Stanley (Lois) Scott, sister-in-law, Mary Scott and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Donnie, her parents, brother, Charles Scott and sister, Marjorie Eidem. In lieu of flowers, Virginia would prefer memorial gifts be made to the Charles and Hazel Scott Scholarship at Dickinson State University, 8th Ave. West and 3rd Street West, Dickinson, ND 58601-4896.
