Virginia Rose Hecker was born March 25, 1934 to John and Caroline (Roeder) Hegel. She grew up on the family farm near Fryburg, ND and attended country school. She later worked as a waitress and it was during this time that she met Herbert Hecker. Virginia and Herbert were married on October 28, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, ND. The couple made their home on the farm northwest of Dickinson. It was here where they made their living and raised their family of six children. After Herbert passed away in 1993, Virginia continued to live on the farm until her health required her to move into Dickinson.
Faith was very important to Virginia, as displayed by her devotion to the Rosary and Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was very grateful for time spent with her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible. Virginia enjoyed going for walks, taking care of her flowers, and gardening. She also enjoyed reading the newspaper, sewing, as well as playing the piano and baseball with her children in her younger days. Virginia was very warm and welcoming to each person she met and will be remembered for her quiet nature and patience.
She is survived by her children, Ivan (Daphne) Hecker, Killdeer, ND; Neil Hecker, South Heart, ND; Renee (Randy) Wetzel, Dickinson, ND; Wesley (Corinne Schwindt) Hecker, Fryburg, ND; Lori (Terry) Schwindt, Dickinson, ND; Clifford Hecker, Dickinson, ND; siblings, Edward Hegel, Glendive, MT; Eugene Hegel, Tumwater, WA; Arlene Thomas, Billings, MT; Caroline Hecker, Dickinson, ND; Darlene Jamison, Glendive, MT; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Virginia is preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Herbert, siblings, Albert Hegel, Julia Hegel, Louie Hegel, John Hegel Jr., Tillie Hegel, and Pauline Frank.
