Funeral Services for Vivian Dodd, Alzada, MT are Monday, February 19, 2007 at Alzada Community Hall, with Pastor Andy Anderson officiating. Burial will take place at Alzada Cemetery at a later date. Vivian Charlene Dodd was born on July 30th, 1927 in Halfway, Oregon to Ada and Charles Carsly. The family later moved to Kingston, Washington, where she worked at the lunch counter at Woolworths. They then moved on to Bremerton, where she worked at the Navy Yards in “confidential files.” At the age of 18 , while working the naval yards, she met her life long companion, James (Dempsey) Dodd, who was serving in the United States Army. On August 5th, 1945 Dempsey and Vivian were united in marriage. She took much pride in being married 62 years. After their marriage they rode the train back to Montana and settled in at the Tex McDowell ranch, living in a sheep wagon, which she often called her castle. They worked on different ranches and then in 1956 Dempsey and Vivian purchased the Alzada Bar and Cafe. Vivian ran the restaurant and was known for her chicken fried steaks and wonderful cooking. In 1975 they sold out and moved to Terry, Montana, then to Broadus and later back to Terry where they lived until 1998 when they come back and settled in at Alzada. Vivian and Dempsey had three children, Marvin Charles Dodd, Vickie (Allen) Drane and Janet (Bill) Walker. They have been blessed with 8 grandchildren, Marty(Joyce) Drane, Thumper (Melanie) Drane, Sherry (John) Baily, Lisa ( Rick ) Blank, Bill ( Brenda ) Hoffman, Jenny Walker, Ryan (Tawnya) Walker, and Julie Walker. Vivian and Dempsey currently have 5 Great Grandchildren, with two more on the way. Vivian never forgot birthdays and loved getting the little ones gifts. Vivian loved her family and taking care of her pets. She continued to enjoy cooking and crocheting. Vivian passed on to be with our Lord on February 14th, 2007 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD. She will be missed by all the family and friends whom loved her so much. She was preceded in death by one son Marvin Dodd.
