Wallace D. McKenzie, 85, Welches, Oregon, formerly of Dickinson, died March 25, 2003, in Oregon. Funeral services will be 1:30 p. m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson with the Reverend Steven Tangen officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home from 10 a. m. to the service time. Wallace D. McKenzie, the last of six children, was born October 20, 1917 in Dickinson to Louise Dittberner and Duncan McKenzie. He attended elementary and high school there. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in business. During WWII he served with the 506th fighter group in the army air force from 1942-45 as an aerial engineer and mechanic. Upon his return from the war he joined his brothers in the family business, D. W. McKenzie and Son which began in 1892, and was sold in 1974. After his retirement he wintered in Green Valley, Arizona until his health brought him to Grand Rapids, Michigan. This past year he lived in his home in Welches, Oregon. He was married to Bernice Hendrickson who preceded him in death. He is survived by their daughter, Dianne Jurgens and her husband Tom of Grand Rapids, Michigan and their son, Wallace McKenzie and his wife Kathryn of Welches, Oregon, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Wallace was a life member and past exalted ruler of Elk?s Lodge #1137, active in the Shriners, a former member of the city parks board, and a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a loving husband, a wonderful dad, a playful grandfather, and an excellent role model. He will be greatly missed by us all.
