Walter Feil, 93, of the Marian Manor in Glen Ullin and formerly of Hebron, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Marian Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM central time Friday, October 3, 2008 at the St. John Church in Hebron, ND. Military rites will be by the Henry Biffert Post #100 of the American Legion. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in rural Mandan, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8:00 pm at Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Walter Feil was born May 11, 1915 on a homestead near the Heart Butte, a son of Fred and Margaret (Haring) Feil. The family moved to Hebron where Walter was raised and educated. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp and later worked for his father at Lutz and Feil Bar. In 1940 he was drafted into the US Army and served over 4 years with the 7th Infantry Division in the Aleutian, Marshall, and Philippine Islands and received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He was discharged with the rank of tech sergeant. Walter returned to Hebron where he met Ida Fuchs, they were married April 15, 1945 at Hebron. Walter worked as a lineman for MDU for 15 years before taking over the Gambles Store, which he operated for 15 years. After he sold the store he returned to electrical work until he retired in 1975. In retirement Walter could be seen having coffee with the fellows, and keeping in shape by walking every day. He was a long time member of the American Legion and the Hebron Lions. He entered the Marian Manor in July of 2005. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 63 years, Ida, Glen Ullin, his daughters, Kim Feil, Miles City, MT; and Becky (Mike) Wiege, Bloomfield, NJ, and one grand daughter Kairee Wiege, born on the same day as Walter. He is also survived by his sister, Viola Webb in Stockton, California. He was preceded in death by three brothers Roy, Roland, and Orein, and one sister Neta McKenzie.
