Funeral services for Walter J. Krieg, 92, of Hebron, will be 11:00 a.m. CDT, Friday, April 27, 2012 at St. John Church, Hebron, with Pastor Gaylund Olson officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Visitation for Walter will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home in Hebron with a Prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.


Walter passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Richardton Health Center in Richardton, ND.


Walter Jacob Krieg was born September 9, 1919 in Morton County, the son of Jacob and Lydia (Imhoff) Krieg. He grew up and attended school in Hebron. As a young man, he began working on the family farm as well as Krieg’s Meat Market. On January 21, 1942, Walter enlisted in the US Navy, serving during WWII. After his discharge on November 12, 1945, Walter returned to Hebron and his job at Krieg’s Meat Market. On January 1, 1948, Walter was united in marriage to Lois Itrich. To this union one daughter, Wendy was born. As a family, they owned and operated the meat market in Hebron. Years later, Walter and Lois opened a custom meat cutting business which they operated for several years. He also managed several meat cutting shops for several grocery stores in the area. In his spare time, Walter was an avid fisherman, whether in a boat or on the ice. Walter also enjoyed playing pinochle and attending rodeos with his buddies. He especially loved and enjoyed his daughter and her dogs. Walter was a member of St. John Church in Hebron, American Legion and Hebron Lions.


Walter is survived by daughter, Wendy Krieg of Hebron; one brother, Harry (Carol) Krieg of Medford, OR; two sisters, Luella (Bill) McTiernan of Sunnyvale, CA and Lillian (Les) Doddington of Lodie, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Lydia; wife Lois; one brother, Ted Krieg; two sisters, Winifred Jager and Laura Peters.
