Walter Schmidt

A funeral service for Walter Schmidt, 76, of Hebron, will be 10:00 a. m. CDT, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at First Congregational Church in Hebron with Pastor Marcy Dawson officiating. Burial will take place in First Congregational Cemetery. Visitation for Walter will be 5:00 p. m. -7:00 p. m. CDT, Tuesday, July 28th at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home in Hebron. Walter passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Marian Manor in Glen Ullin, ND. Walter was born March 31, 1939 in Glen Ullin, the son of Frank C. and Loretta (Gauer) Schmidt. Growing up he attended grade school in Hebron and four years in Glen Ullin, graduating from Hebron High School in 1957. He continued his education in Mechanical School in Chicago, IL for two years. On October 20, 1972, Walter married Darla Olin in Dickinson. They were blessed with four children, Darcy, Jamie, Darvin and Leaha. Walter loved farming and ranching. Due to an open heart surgery, Walter retired in October, 2005. He continued to love driving around looking at the country side. Walter was a member of the Congregational Church Council, serving as the church deacon for eight years. He will be missed dearly. Walter is survived by his children, Darcy (Shawna Dowler) Schmidt of Dickinson, Jamie (Rhonda) Schmidt of Glen Ullin, Darvin (Kristi) Schmidt of Hebron, Leaha (Brad) Kitzmann of Leeds; 12 grandchildren, Melanie (Dustin) Wilhelm, Stephanie (Chris Wolf) Pelton-Schmidt, Jeremy (Andrea) Schmidt, Caralea (Lucas) Vogelsang, Jesse Schmidt, Channing (Lauren) Schmidt, Chandler Schmidt, Colton Schmidt, Laken (Justin) Wehri, Jaden Schmidt, Clay Kitzmann, Keira Kitzmann; 15 great-grandchildren, McKenzie Wilhelm, Daymian Wilhelm, Noah Wilhelm, Aunika Wilhelm, Layla Pelton, Alyssa Pelton, Carson Wolf, Nevaeh Schmidt, Ashton Vogelsang, Jackson Vogelsang, Jaicee Vogelsang, Camden Schmidt, Zaylee Schmidt and Kaiden Wehri ; brothers, Clifford (Joyce) Schmidt of Hebron, Jerry (Roberta) Schmidt of Center, Delbert (Janet) Hellman of Williston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Loretta Schmidt; wife Darla (1997), aunts, uncles and cousins.
