Ward Northrop, 77, Dickinson died Saturday, February 28, 2004, at St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson. Funeral services will be 1 p. m. Wednesday at the Medora Community Center with the Rev. Roger Dieterle, officiating. Interment will be in Medora Cemetery, Medora, with Military Rites provided by the William C. Blair Post #144. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Tuesday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p. m. led by Rev. Roger Dieterle. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the Medora Community Center. Ward Northrop was born July 30, 1926, in Belfield to Ward S. and Gladys (Heaton) Northrop. He attended the Blacktail Country School. Later Ward was employed with Fettig Rodeo Company of Killdeer. Ward was drafted into the U. S. Army and served in the Philippines during WWII. On October 14, 1950, he married Beverly Stigen in Medora. In 1951, they moved to the Northrop Ranch, ten miles west of Fairfield. Ward and Beverly later purchased the ranch and lived there until they retired in 1977. Ward was a member of Belfield Lutheran Church and the William C. Blair Post #144. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, rodeos, baseball and high school basketball. Ward is survived by: four sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Nita Northrop, Belfield, Wade and Bonnie Northrop, Belfield, Blaine and Deb Northrop, Grassy Butte, Wynn and Nancy Northrop, Dickinson; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Leah Ray, Bismarck; two brothers, Bruce Northrop, Medora and Dale (Toby) Northrop, Klamath Falls, Ore. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife Beverly; infant son; one infant great-grandson; one brother-in-law, Leo Ray and one sister-in-law, Judy Northrop.
